¡Bienvenidos a Chile!

I find it very strange that I am not in cultural shock right now because I have only been here for three days, and it is quite different than home. I am in the city, but a more poor part of the city where there are lots of stray dogs and apartments with clothes hanging out the window. I love it though! It is the heat of summer so i am getting comfortable feeling gross and drinking lots of water haha If i didn´t have a way to check the date, I would never know it is Christmas time.

The members here are great, and we always have a place to go for lunch, which is the big meal of the day. Equally so, my companion is great! Her name is Hermana Vargas and she is from here in Chile! She lives in a town that I forget the name of that is south of here. She knows quite a bit of English which is nice, and she has only been out in the field for 4 months so I think we are both learning more or less. Our relationship is like any relationship, it needs work. As you can imagine, there is a little bit of a language barrier, but we can usually get by it when I perform some very unique dance moves to get her laughing or when she makes me our very nutritous dinner of tom ramen with lots of cheese hahahah It is great.

Since we have been here, we have taught only two lessons which is less than preferable to me because I love teaching, but our investigadors are great. And by teaching I mean bearing my testimony because I don´t have the ability to actual teach yet. Anyway we are teaching two sisters who are 15 and 13 and they are so cute and kept asking me to sing Justin Beiber in English for them and kept wanting to play Simon says and then laughing every time it was my turn! When I left middle school, I never though 13 year old girls would be ever be intimidating to me again... boy was I wrong. Our other investigador is a 14 year old boy named Bastian. We were contacted by his mother because she was looking for a way to help him with his drug problem so she is encouraging the lessons a lot. He has a baptism date, so hopefully he will be able to follow through.

When i got here all the missionaries told me not to worry that I would pick up the language eventually, so I am SERIOUSLY relying on that. I don´t know what language they taught me in the CCM but I swear it was not the same language they speak here. I get confused when someone asks me where I am from or how old i am... Chileano Spanish and Mexican spanish are too very different things. I honestly just walk down the street saying Hola to literally everyone and smiling because I know nothing else! It´s all right though hahah Surprisingly I haven´t gotten frustrated yet, I just kind of laugh at how ridiculous I must look haha

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!!!

Chile Here I Come!

This email is going to be short and sweet just like each week here at the CCM is. My sixth and final week at the CCM is here! This week was/is full of a lot of  meetings and last minute workshops where they are hoping to cram as much information as possible into our heads as if they haven't already been doing that this whole time.

We fly out at 7pm from Mexico and fly through the night on an 8 1/2 hour flight all the way until we get to Santiago at 6am. Wish me luck. There is a fairly big group of missionaries flying to Santiago together so it will be fun. What won't be fun is that we will be getting there during the hottest time of year... I am just starting to adjust to the 40 degree mornings and nights here in Mexico and now I have to start all over in the heat of summer while all of you back home enjoy your beautiful wintery Christmas.

I am excited to get out into the field though! We had TRC yesterday where volunteers who live around here come and let us teach them. We first taught an adorable 11 year old girl who kept correcting our Spanish, and then we taught her mother who shared with us such a strong testimony. her husband got in a bad accident a while ago where he fractured his head and also had a spinal injury both which caused him to lose his sight. She hadn't been to church in a while because she has been sick or taking care of her husband in his recovery process. In addition, she doesn't work so their family was struggling without her husband able to work and provide. Even during this hard time, she said she still felt the Saviors love with her every day. She played a song called His Hands will us and she sang along and it was so cute. She never doubted what she knew to be true and her testimony is strong as ever. She is an amazing example! My favorite part was when we said goodbye and she gave us all kisses on the cheek. I know it's a normal thing in this culture so i can't wait to get to Chile!! I know this Christmas is going to be quite different for me, but i can't think of a better gift than getting to meet all the people I have grown to love so much already.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas season and remember #lighttheworld

p.s. I will be emailing a little later today as well, so if you didn't get a chance, I would love to hear from you!

Cero Miedo! - November 30, 2017

Hello!!

SO i may not be catching on to Spanish super quick, but you can better believe i am catching on to Spanish slang. Hermana Pulsipher's special Latino friend taught us this "zero fear" phrase and a cool hand sign thing after he gave her a keychain as a token of his interest for her. We now use it almost every day when we play volleyball with the Latinos because it is one of the few things we can say to communicate with them.

This cero miedo is also going to be my motto for these last two weeks I have left here in Mexico. My companions and i were asked to be the sister training leaders for our zone so, it is pretty safe to say study time is going to be few and far between. It's all good though :) We love our girls so much. we have 16 hermanas and they are all so sweet. When we were called, my companions and decided it only made sense because Hermana Pulsipher is the therapist and welcomer, Hermana Murdock is the mediator and I am apparently the "manager." We are the 3 amigas!

Once again, this week has gone to show that my poor district 14E is the forgotten district. During my time here at the CCM so far, we have had 7 teachers, 3 different P-Days, missed dinner because of a schedule mixup, and we are completely separated from our branch both location and schedule wise. It sounds bad, but honestly I wouldn't have it any other way. I love my time here at the CCM, I love my district, and I love my companions.

If you can't tell, charity and love are the attributes I am working on this week. In my personal study, I was studying charity and love and I read Jude 1:21 in the Old Testament. It was such a good reminder for me that the love of God is ALWAYS in our life, but it is up to us whether we KEEP ourselves in his love. If we daily look for the mercy of Jesus Christ and we use the atonement EVERY day, we will see and feel it. I encourage you to do something Elder Bednar challenged us to do in his Thanksgiving devotional to missionaries this last week. Go buy or find a cheap copy of the Book of Mormon. You know the original missionary blue cover one. Read it with a specific question in mind and while you are reading mark the heck out of it. Write in the margins, underline, highlight the whole 9 yards. When you're done write a small paragraph of what you learned and your testimony then write on the binding Christ's Atonement 1. When you are done, get a new one and start all over/ I just started this last week, but I have already learned so much, and I know you can do it to.

At a devotional with the MTC president and his wife, we talked about obedience and motivation. I wish i could share everything I learned but that would take too long. I know that this mission is going to be hard, and that i can't do it alone, but it's okay because I'm not doing it on my own. I have my Savior with me every second. The Bennetts said something that I LOVED and I hope it can help you too. They said: "Sometimes it's not enough to do our best, we need to do what is required; go further than you think you can, and you will be blessed with not only blessings, but miracles.

Have a great week! And I would love to hear from you!

November 22, 2017

This week i am just chugging right along. i am getting more and more comfortable with teaching (well my fellow district members haha) and my spanish is still a work in progress. I havent had a total break down yet so that is good, i just feel unqualified at times. But i love all the time i get to study and read! I hope thanksgiving is going to be a blast for everyone! make sure to take lots of pictures and give Thomas Ethan Emily and Dad really really big hugs from me! I am so excited for the holiday season! They covered the entire MTC grounds in puensetias (no idea how to spell that) it is so gorgeous and they wrapped all the pom trees in Christmas lights and i cant wait for them to light them!!!! Not much has happened this week... They dont lie when they said after the first week time flies! im already on my third week!!! its crazy but its awesome. My favorite little thought this week is to remember to not compare, compete, or criticize because you very well know i compare myself to others too much (im getting better), i get way to competitive even in things like four square (i swear theyre all out to get me) and i criticize myself too harshly for not being perfect. I am learning so much every day and i love it! i go to bed every night exhausted and i wouldn't want it any other way. I can't wait to talk to you in four weeks and then again like three weeks after that hahaha

It's always a party! - November 15, 2017

Hola mi familia!

Surprise! My P-Day was moved up from Thursday to Wednesday because my branch got dissolved. As the number of missionaries in the CCM (Mexico MTC) gets smaller and smaller they start combining branches and changing districts so it´s been a little crazy! We have had out schedules changed three times already in the last week, but it´s okay because i am getting pretty good at adapting to change.

For starters I am in Mexico!! whoop whoop! It´s sunny and 75 every day, and aparently it´s always a party because there are fireworks constantly going off throughout the day. I say fireworks but they are really just loud explsions that people shoot into the sky.. like fireworks but without the flare.

Other than the fact that I am in another country that never sleeps, I also now spend literally 24/7 with two of the most amazing girls ever. I am in a trio with Hermana Murdock who is from Montana and Hermana Pulsipher who is from San Diego. I think somone upstairs is looking out for me, because we got super lucky when we were put together. We all get along super well which makes our constant companionship more of a blessing and less of a burden :) Hermana Pulsipher is so sweet always so friendly with everyone and so loving in our lessons, and Hermana Murdock is always laughing at the dumbest things with me and keeping me sane. She is such a peacemaker too. They are truly amazing and patient people because somehow they deal with my hard headedness and my competitive nature during four square of all things. I am so blessed.

Our district is made of up 8 elders (4 companionships) and they are all such uniques missionaries hahaha they are the best. I will attatch a picture :) It´s fun with them because a lot of them just graduated high school this year so we just get to talk with them like little brothers. one does back flips, one beat boxes, one registers everything 5 minutes after it happened, one is a motivational speaker, one is LITERALLY Toby from the office, one is always smiling... they´re just awesome.

Spanish is coming slow and steady... really slow hahah our teachers are amazing and they make it so easy to understand them, but once we are left to fend for ourselves in a lesson, somehow i forget everything I have learned! I am learning to fully rely on the Spirit which is really hard for me when I feel like I need to write down every thing i want to say, but  I am learning and growing so much every day, I love it!! I know I have a special calling and power as a missionary because I am able to get up at 6:30am every day no problem (hear that mom ;)) and there are times when I will be talking and have no idea what im saying but I know they are inspired.

Every day is such a spiritual high! Mi compaƱeras y yo always joke that it is literally EFY on steroids hahaha The MTC president and his wife (the Bennets) are incredible people who always know exactly what to say to lift our spirits.

The other day we had a devotional and one of the members of the presidency spoke and he was a kernal in the Air Force so he was super inspirational about us giving our 110%. Not going to lie, it is hard, but I have never been more determined in my entire life. However, this is sometimes a bad thing because I can be too hard on myself for not learning the language fast enough or not having every scripture memorized... as you all know. But there is a scripture that i really like in Mosiah 4:27 that says, ´´for it is not requisite that a man run faster than he has strength.´´ I LOVE the Spanish language and I love feeling so close to the Spirit every day, and I know that as long as I do my best every day, I will be able to change lives. I CAN´T WAIT! I encourage all of you to do the same. To work hard and just give your 110% every day.

I would love love love to hear from everyone so email me, or even better use dearelder because then I can read them right away!!!! Also mom, since letters and packages dont get here sometimes and its just unreliable, there is an awesome thing called missionarymx i think.. anyway you can order yummy things and a local business will then buy and deliver it here ;)

Love,

Hermana Bever

I'm Here! - November 7, 2017

Hi fam!

I finally made it to Mexico which means I have a stamp in my passport!! No amount of bad Provo driving prepared me for the stress of riding in the back of a bus down the streets of Mexico City. I dont know if these people are good drivers or if they are just lucky and thats how they dont hit each other. We got to the campus right around sunset, and it was so gorgeous! I will attatch pictures some other time :)

I met my companion already in my arrival group, Hermana Murdock, but I am actually in a trio with her and an Hermana Pulsipher who I haven`t met yet! My pday is Thursday but since I am writing you right now, you will have to wait until next Thursday to hear from me again :)

I am tired and have only eaten cookies and pretzels from my flights, but somehow I am as happy as ever! I have already been taking tons of pictures but I am pushed for time and honestly dont know how to upload them...

Sending love from Mexico
